Pattern Primer: Fall Floral Skirt with Ciana Printed Skirt

Hello friend! I have discussed the virtues of fall florals before, so I will spare you the reprise. But I will not pass on the chance to share this particular fall floral skirt with you. Meet the Ciana printed skirt from Anthropologie. This skirt is the epitome of an Elsie skirt: bold print, pretty colors and pleated full silhouette. Let me show you how I styled her.

Ciana Printed Skirt: Review

First let me review the fit of this skirt. As I mentioned above, it is a full skirt. I adore a full skirt. I think it looks good on everyone because it accentuates the waist. It always makes for a feminine look. The Ciana printed skirt is made well, with lots of individual panels sewn together. It is however, 100% polyester, which isn’t my favorite of fabrics. Also, it does not have a lining.

As far as fit goes, the Ciana printed skirt comes through. I purchased a size small and it fits me perfectly. It creates a pretty silhouette and falls very elegantly over the hips. One of the details I especially love is the rose gold zipper in the back. It just adds a stylish touch.

Fall Florals Outfit with the Ciana Printed Skirt

When I first saw the Ciana printed skirt, I was drawn to the pretty floral print and the muted fall colors. Therefore when I went to wear it, I decided to keep the skirt as the focus point of the outfit. Thus I paired it with a simple gray shell and a burgundy Jackie cardigan.

However, because I do adore my colors, I needed another pop of it. Therefore I added some punch to the outfit with a pair of mustard heels. As you know, I have a thing for mustard and burgundy so I just couldn’t resist it here.

For accessories I chose a short but intricate necklace. I think it echos the femininity of the skirt perfectly

I hope you enjoyed another example of a fall florals outfit. I truly find it is so easy and beautiful to wear florals in the fall. Are you on the fall florals bandwagon?

My 2017 Thanksgiving Outfit

Hello friend! My Thanksgiving outfit has been planned for a while now and I’ve been itching to share it with you. So I am glad I get to do so today. I had purchased this sequin polka dot cardigan on one of my midnight online shopping sprees (blame it on the prosecco!) almost two months ago. I loved the details on the polka dots (they have sequins on them!). Then I was waiting for the perfect skirt to come my way… enter the Banana Republic ombre lace midi pencil skirt.

Ombre Lace Midi Pencil Skirt Review

Because I purchase most of my clothes online, sizing is often a concern. For this skirt I was especially cautious because it is called a midi skirt. Because I am 5’4, I have to be careful of skirts that may be too long. They tend to make me look short. Therefore for this skirt I chose to order the 2p. I went up a size as you customarily should when going from standard sizes to petite.

The fit is overall good. It is just a tad large on the waist. But I worry that a full size down would be too snug. As for the length, I am surprised it is classified as a midi. The 2p fell right at my knees. To be honest, I was hoping for a longer length, to get more of that 1940’s vibe. However, the fit was good overall, so I will be wearing it!

J Crew Sequin Polka Dot Cardigan Review

Now time to discuss the cardi! I simply adore it. The bold cranberry polka dot is just perfect for the holidays. The fit is fairly true to the Jackie cardigans overall, but may run a tad small on the shoulders. I don’t mind this as I like a snug cardigan, but if you are planning on wearing it buttoned up, keep that in mind!

The Final Thanksgiving Outfit

When I put the pieces together, I loved how they complemented each other while still standing out on their own. The variated colors of the skirt add almost a hint of stripes. Furthermore, the lace brings in another element of texture.

I love that the skirt has multiple shades of red in it. Luckily it complements the polka dots of the cardigan well.

For shoes I was torn between my blue velvet booties (to make a baby blue and burgundy color combination) or my mustard heels (for a mustard and burgundy color combination). In the end I chose the mustard as it popped more against the outfit.

For accessories I chose to keep it minimal with my delicate Brielle statement necklace. I chose to pair the necklace with a small pair of ear jackets from this Sugarfix trio. The combination works because they are all subtle pieces. The jewelry allows the details of the sweater to be the focus.

I hope you enjoyed this year’s Thanksgiving outfit. What are you wearing for the holiday?

Color Crush: Mustard and Burgundy

Hello friend! As we near the end of fall, I would like one last homage to my favorite color of the season: burgundy.  I adored pairing burgundy and blush as well as burgundy and pink. And let’s not forget baby blue and burgundy. Needless to say, I think burgundy pairs well with many other colors. So today, let me introduce you to one last pairing: mustard and burgundy.

Mustard and Burgundy for Work

For a simple work outfit, pair a mustard plaid (or other print) with a burgundy skirt. The vibrant colors complement each other perfectly. Because I adore pattern mixing, I chose to add leopard print pumps. However, if that is too much for you, simply pair it with a cognac shoe instead.

For my accessories, I decided to wear an eye-catching necklace with the Araksi from Baublebar. I also doubled up on the burgundy by wearing a burgundy leather strap watch.

A second work outfit is with this multi color striped top. Because the shirt has both mustard and burgundy in it, I decided to make that the focus of my color palette.

Once again I brought in some leopard print because I enjoy mixing prints, but of course that is completely optional. In this outfit, I am also wearing some of the same pieces of jewelry as the last outfit. However, I’ve changed it up a bit in the styling. I am wearing the necklace backwards so that it is a simple circular  strand of crystal goodness right at the neckline. Don’t you just love versatile pieces like this?

Casual Mustard and Burgundy

For a casual look, simply pair a burgundy top with a mustard colorway scarf. Here I am wearing a mustard plaid blanket scarf. I paired it all with neutral grey jeans and black over the knee boots.

Dressy Mustard and Burgundy

To achieve a more dressy look, I chose one of my all time favorite Anthropologie skirts. It is long since sold out, so I’m sorry for making you fall in love with it. But she really is a beauty! Ironically, the skirt has a burgundy underlay and a mustard waist line. It’s as if it was meant for this post! For this look, I paired the skirt with a burgundy cardigan and my favorite mustard heels.

For my accessories, I added my Baublebar twisted pearl necklace and a statement belt.

Mustard and Burgundy Accessories

The color fun doesn’t have to stop with your clothes. You can also bring in the mustard and burgundy into your accessories. It’s not only a fun way to break up your routine of neutral accessories, but also a creative way of bringing in color into your outfit.

As the fall season comes to an end, make it a point to celebrate the season of color by pairing your mustard and burgundy pieces together.

Color Crush: Burgundy and Pink

Hello friend! If it’s not obvious, I am a tad obsessed with burgundy. I’ve done multiple color crush series on burgundy pairings. Well, add another to the list because I am thoroughly obsessed with burgundy and pink.

Although I had done a burgundy and blush post, recently I have come to like burgundy paired with a slightly darker pink than blush. I find that a cooler mid tone pink works very well with burgundy.

Burgundy and Pink for the Office

Because I work full-time, I love to have fun outfits. Therefore, I had to bring this color scheme to my work outfits. For this first look, I paired my burgundy J. Crew pencil skirt with a pink J. Crew Factory buffalo plaid shirt.

For accessories, I added my blush lace up heels along with a pretty pendant necklace. Because the necklace was a long one, I wanted some extra bling closer to my face. Therefore, I added a pretty pair of earrings.

Another option for work is to incorporate a patterned blanket scarf with the same colors into the outfit. The colors are grounded by the neutral camel color that is found in the scarf and echoed in the vest.

Because the blanket scarf is so voluminous, I opted for stud earrings. I chose these pretty Indie and Chic pair because they are dainty yet detailed.

Casual Burgundy and Pink

This color palette also works for casual looks. For this first one, I paired a pink gingham shirt with an argyle sweater. I added a pop of burgundy with the purse. Keeping everything else neutral is key to making the pink and burgundy pop.

For another casual look, I paired a pink tweed jacket with a burgundy top and jeans. The colors and the textures here give this outfit a lot of visual interest. I grounded the look with a pair of nude pumps.

For accessories, I added a twisted strand of pearls and my fun new Kate Spade watch.

Color Crush: Baby Blue and Burgundy

Hello friend! If you’ve read my Instagram style challenges post, then you already know I get a lot of style inspiration from them. One of the recent challenges hosted by my friend Katy from @wearwhatwhere, had a prompt of burgundy blues. In recent conversations, Katy had also shared with me her current favorite color pair: baby blue and burgundy. I was drawn to the colors and I knew I had to make a color crush post to share with you.

Keep in Casual in Baby Blue and Burgundy

Upgrade a casual sweater and leggings look by bringing in this beautiful new color combination.

The look can be simply accomplished by adding a baby blue necklace to a rich burgundy sweater.

Baby Blue and Burgundy for Work

This color combination is an easy one to wear to work. Here I paired a baby blue striped shirt with a burgundy skirt.

Another way to wear this color combination to work is by pairing a burgundy plaid with a baby blue pencil skirt. The added bonus here is that this allows you to wear your summer items (such as your baby blue) into the fall. The color combination still works for fall because the rich burgundy hue carries the blue into the season.

I wore this color combination for this year’s thanksgiving outfit. It was seasonal yet unique, perfectly fitting my style.

Accessorize with Baby Blue and Burgundy

Sometimes, you can get the effect just from your accessories. Here I tied a burgundy square scarf around my blue purse. I wore these accessories with a simple grey dress. The pops of colors in the baby blue and burgundy brought a lot of personality to the neutral dress.

I’m so happy Katy mentioned this color combination. It is a beautiful palette to work with. I hope you have found some inspiration here. Let me know (and tag me on Instagram) if you try this combination.

As always, for those interested in shopping the post, I have listed any of the available items below.

Color Crush: Burgundy and Blush

Hello friend,

As I started to put away my summer clothes in exchange for my fall items, I realized there were some pieces I didn’t want to entomb for the colder months. Most important of these were my blush toned items. While the softer pastel tones of the items called for warm weather, I knew I could make it fall appropriate. Thus I set about pairing it with more traditional autumnal colors. Once I paired it with burgundy, it was a match made in heaven. So let me share my ways to make burgundy and blush work for you this season.

burgundy and blush fall outfit

For the first outfit, I went for a simple color-blocked look with this lovely Charming Charlie blouse. The colors play off of each other perfectly. I chose nude pumps so not to detract from the beautiful colors.

Another option is to incorporate burgundy in a print. This is demonstrated in the floral kimono below. While there are many colors in the kimono, the predominant one is burgundy. Because the item is so large, I chose to add multiple bits of blush to break up the large expanse of burgundy.

For a fun casual look, I paired my blush leather jacket with a lace burgundy shirt.

burgundy and blush in a leather and lace outfit

As I’ve said before, I like to add interest to the outfit by bringing in multiple textures. That applies here too with the mix of leather, denim and lace.

The fun doesn’t have to stop with the clothes. You can use the color palette in your accessories as well. Therefore, try pairing a beautiful blush tone statement earring with a burgundy top. Furthermore, the femininity of this particular earring is a nice contrast to the innate masculinity of a plaid shirt.

Another option is to pair a burgundy scarf with a blush tee. This is also an opportunity to bring in a print as I did with this polka dot scarf.

Finally, your accessories can achieve the burgundy and blush combination on their own. This concept is perfectly illustrated below with the blush bag and shoes. While the larger pieces are blush, the small burgundy scarf tied around the purse’s strap results in a perfect contrast.

Following the examples above, I hope burgundy and blush will become a go-to color combination for you.
