Hello friend. After many years away, the bodysuit is returning to the spotlight. Now it has been a couple of decades since I last wore bodysuits. But I have recently started wearing them again. Thanks to my gateway bodysuit, the Commando sleeveless bodysuit, I am now hooked. Let me share my tips and tricks on wearing bodysuit outfits!
Hello friend and welcome back to Skirtmas. For day 8, I am shifting gears away from work looks and towards a fun party look. With New Year’s Eve under 2 weeks away, we need to plan our party outfits. The winter holidays often call for sequins. Now who am I to ignore that call? So I say, bust out the sequins. The skirt I got is the Anthropologie sequined soiree skirt. Let me show you how I’m wearing it.
Anthropologie Sequined Soiree Skirt Review
The Anthropologie sequined soiree skirt is a well made, fun party skirt. It has a lining with a medium thick fabric, preventing the sequins from poking you. Thus making the skirt comfortable to wear. The design of the skirt is just beautiful: horizontal colorful stripes made of sequins! It’s a color and pattern lover’s delight!
The fit of the Anthropologie sequined soiree skirt is spot on. It is a classic A-line shape that is cut perfectly. Furthermore, it’s a fun length for evenings out, just a few inches above the knee.
Anthropologie Sequined Soiree Skirt Outfit
Because the skirt is such a statement piece, I chose to wear an understated top. Therefore I chose my fitted sweater (read more about it in the perfect layering sweater post). That way the skirt could play the starring role, while the top supported it! I could have worn a black sweater, but I chose a light blue. That’s because I felt the skirt already had a lot of black in it. However, if you will be wearing this for a major bash, a sleek black top will work beautifully!
Although I kept my top fairly simple, I did want to add some more fun to the outfit. Therefore I chose to wear patterned tights. This fits into the season as it functions to keep us warm. But it also adds another layer of interest to the outfit.
I completed my look with lace up booties.
I hope you enjoyed my styling of the Anthropologie sequined soiree skirt. Every girl should have a fun party skirt like this in her closet. Check out some of my picks below! See you tomorrow for day 9 of Skirtmas!
Hello friend! Every winter season, I search for the perfect layering sweater. Now I can finally say that I have found it! Hooray! It’s the Merino Rib Knit Scalloped Crew from Banana Republic. I’ve been wearing it constantly (with my cape and under my cardigans). Let me tell you what makes it so perfect.
Key Points of a Perfect Layering Sweater
Thin: The sweater needs to be thin so that it can be layered! A bulky sweater just cannot work as an under-layer.
Warm: We are still in winter, therefore the sweater has to serve to keep you warm.
Stylish: While warmth is an important factor, we all still want to look stylish without freezing our butts off.
Easy to clean: These days I am just too busy to go to the dry-cleaner. While this is the “perfect layering sweater” criteria that I am least strict about, I would still love it if my sweaters were hand or machine washable.
Non-itchy: I don’t know about you, but if a sweater is touching my bare skin, it needs to be non-itchy! An itchy sweater will not work with my sensitive skin.
Merino Rib Knit Scalloped Crew = The Perfect Layering Sweater?
So, does the merino rib knit scalloped crew qualify to be named the perfect layering sweater? Let’s check the criteria…
It is thin enough to layer. It is a tad on the sheer side though, so be aware. It’s nothing that deterred me from purchasing three of them. However, be careful about wearing a contrasting bra underneath it.
Because it is made of 100% wool, it definitely keeps me warm.
It is certainly a stylish sweater with its rib knit and scalloped neck details.
Now this is the real reason I purchased so many of these sweaters: the are machine washable! Amazing right? That is so essential for busy stylish gals like us!
Last but not least, I can wear the sweater without the need for a t-shirt underneath. It is soft and comfortable on my skin.
I am thrilled with ending my search for the perfect layering sweater. Now I’m on to my next big mission. I am on the hunt for the perfect t-shirt, both long-sleeved and short-sleeved. I want something in between a crew neck and a scoop neck. Do you have a favorite you can recommend?
Hello friend! As I mentioned in my winter kimono post, I am loving unique outerwear pieces right now. One such obsession is the cape. It all started during New York Fashion Week. At the Banana Republic event, I saw the Herringbone ruffle cape, and I haven’t been the same since. Just kidding, I am not thatcrazy! But in all honesty, the item stayed on my mind until I purchased it recently. Let me show you why it’s fantastic!
Other Cape Options
While the Herringbone ruffle cape is my love right now, there are plenty of other options for you, both in solids and prints. I am especially intrigued by this sweater cape.
Herringbone Ruffle Cape Review
Unlike what occurred in my winter kimono post, the Herringbone Ruffle Cape is named correctly. It is, in fact, a cape! Therefore, as expected, it flows over the shoulders and only has slits for the arms. It does not have sleeves. Keep that in mind for styling purposes.
As far as quality goes, the cape is exquisite. It truly is a statement piece that looks like it is worth much more than what you pay for it. It is a wool and polyester blend that feels nice to the touch. The ruffles on the sleeve give it a cool edge. It makes me think of armor!
How to Style a Cape
Wearing a cape can be tricky! Because this outerwear garment does not have sleeves, your outfit sleeves (or your bare arms) will show through. Therefore, what you put on those arms matters! If you are wearing a long-sleeved top or dress, opt for one with fitted sleeves. A bold bell sleeve will compete with the cape. You’ll end up with a busy outfit that has no focal point.
Accessories are also important. If you are wearing a short-sleeve top, make sure to wear a pretty watch or striking bracelet. It’ll help to showcase the cape. Also, be mindful of the purse that you choose to carry. Shoulder bags look very awkward with a cape. Instead, go for a clutch or a satchel that you hold in your hand.
As you can see, I am thoroughly smitten with my new cape. This is definitely going to be one of my “it” pieces this fall and winter. I can’t wait to see how it looks with a skirt or dress!
Hello friend! My Thanksgiving outfit has been planned for a while now and I’ve been itching to share it with you. So I am glad I get to do so today. I had purchased this sequin polka dot cardigan on one of my midnight online shopping sprees (blame it on the prosecco!) almost two months ago. I loved the details on the polka dots (they have sequins on them!). Then I was waiting for the perfect skirt to come my way… enter the Banana Republic ombre lace midi pencil skirt.
Ombre Lace Midi Pencil Skirt Review
Because I purchase most of my clothes online, sizing is often a concern. For this skirt I was especially cautious because it is called a midi skirt. Because I am 5’4, I have to be careful of skirts that may be too long. They tend to make me look short. Therefore for this skirt I chose to order the 2p. I went up a size as you customarily should when going from standard sizes to petite.
The fit is overall good. It is just a tad large on the waist. But I worry that a full size down would be too snug. As for the length, I am surprised it is classified as a midi. The 2p fell right at my knees. To be honest, I was hoping for a longer length, to get more of that 1940’s vibe. However, the fit was good overall, so I will be wearing it!
J Crew Sequin Polka Dot Cardigan Review
Now time to discuss the cardi! I simply adore it. The bold cranberry polka dot is just perfect for the holidays. The fit is fairly true to the Jackie cardigans overall, but may run a tad small on the shoulders. I don’t mind this as I like a snug cardigan, but if you are planning on wearing it buttoned up, keep that in mind!
The Final Thanksgiving Outfit
When I put the pieces together, I loved how they complemented each other while still standing out on their own. The variated colors of the skirt add almost a hint of stripes. Furthermore, the lace brings in another element of texture.
I love that the skirt has multiple shades of red in it. Luckily it complements the polka dots of the cardigan well.
For shoes I was torn between my blue velvet booties (to make a baby blue and burgundy color combination) or my mustard heels (for a mustard and burgundy color combination). In the end I chose the mustard as it popped more against the outfit.
For accessories I chose to keep it minimal with my delicate Brielle statement necklace. I chose to pair the necklace with a small pair of ear jackets from this Sugarfix trio. The combination works because they are all subtle pieces. The jewelry allows the details of the sweater to be the focus.
I hope you enjoyed this year’s Thanksgiving outfit. What are you wearing for the holiday?
Hello friend! With fall almost here, it’s time to start thinking about the 2017 fall fashion trends and deciding which ones we’ll participate in. I have looked through countless magazines and websites to pull together what I think will be the most interesting trends this season. But first, if you’re not quite ready for fall, check out my post on summer to fall transition.
As with every new season, I will rely on pieces already in my wardrobe, along with some updates from new purchases. Therefore I will be including photos from previous seasons. Please excuse the lower quality photos as some were taken before my blogging days!
2017 Fall Fashion Trends: Fun Trim
Whether it be feathers, fur or fringe, a fun trim is definitely on call for 2017 fall fashion trends. I definitely plan on getting aboard this trend. That’s because I have always had a fondness for feathers (at one time I even wanted a feather tattoo)! I think feather trim will be a more painless option! Until I find such skirt, I will wear my Banana Republic fringe skirt (I linked a few comparable ones below, you’re welcome!).
2017 Fall Fashion Trends: Shimmer and Shine
From patent leather to sequins, the 2017 fall fashion trends are calling for some high shine items! Polished metallics and glossy coated items were big too. Also essential this season: glitter! Whether in shoes or other items, a little sprinkle of glitter is on point. I will participate by wearing my silver pumps and perhaps adding a sequined skirt to my collection.
2017 Fall Fashion Trends: Florals
While not commonly a fall trend, florals are going to be big this fall! I can proudly say I was ahead of the curve with this one. I actually wore fall florals (and blogged about it) last year. Therefore I can easily participate in the trend again this year!
2017 Fall Fashion Trends: Red
Well this girl is certainly happy to see red as the color for fall. I’ve always loved red. Probably because as a teen I wanted to be “The lady in red” from that ubiquitous love song! Therefore, I will certainly be donning red this fall. While the runways showed a bunch of head to toe red outfits, you can certainly start with just a splash!
This may be the perfect season to bring back my red leather trench coat. It’s one of my “museum” pieces (more to come on that soon)! It’s such a statement piece that I had retired it for a few years. But with red being so big this fall, I may have to resurface that piece. You can try a bold red coat as well. Or why not try the “it” shoes in red? I’ve linked a few options for you below!
2017 Fall Fashion Trends: Retro Plaid
Plaid is certainly a common fall print, so I’m not surprised to see it here. According to some insiders, the difference this season is that the plaid is more retro (think 70s style: with browns and oranges). Because I have always loved plaid, I am eager to try this trend as well. I plan on finding (within my closet and at the stores) some of the more classic plaid.
2017 Fall Fashion Trends: Corduroy
Another one of the 2017 fall fashion trends that I am not surprised about is corduroy. Similar to plaid, corduroy seems to come around every fall. This is another trend I can easily follow. I already own a beautiful mustard yellow corduroy skirt from Anthropologie. I have worn it multiple times in the past and I am sure to wear it again this fall.
I’m also eyeing this gorgeous corduroy top. I think it will be just the item to add to my 2017 fall fashion trends list.
I have to admit that the 2017 fall fashion trends has got me excited for the cooler weather ahead. Which one of these trends are your favorites so far? And just in case you thought that’s all I had to offer, you’re wrong! Stay tuned for part II of my 2017 fall fashion trends. There are more exciting things to come!
Hello friend! Because I loved the Banana Republic paper-bag waist skirt so much, I decided to make multiple outfits with it. I knew it would be fairly easy because the cut and color of the skirt are both classic.
I love how streamlined the look is with a bodysuit. It’s a look that will be perfect for multiple occasions. To add some print and texture, I wore my Vionic snakeskin booties. The add a fun touch to the outfit.
For my accessories, I chose a fun tassel necklace. I love how a necklace looks against a mock turtleneck.
It’s fairly obvious to say I am loving my paper-bag waist skirt. It is very versatile, as I hope I have proven. What’s your favorite look? Let me know in the comments.
Hello friend! When I first laid my eyes upon this skirt, I knew I had to have it. One, because I had been looking for a neutral khaki skirt. Two, because I love the lace inset detail. Three, because the paperbag waist is a spring/summer trend that I have yet to try. And four, the most important reason, because it fit me so well! Therefore the Banana Republic Paperbag Waist Lace Inset Skirt had to come home with me!
Because I had been looking for a khaki skirt for such a long time, I had to wear the Banana Republic paperbag waist lace inset skirt right away. I wanted to make it a work look, so I paired it with an office-friendly navy shell.
I loved how the Banana Republic paperbag waist lace inset skirt fits and looks. Wearing a paperbag waist can be a bit tough though, so here are my tips:
Wear it with a tucked in top. This tip is key! If you want to have a streamlined look, make sure the top is not loose and billowy. The top I chose is a knit, which tends to cling to the body, thus making it ideal for this skirt.
Consider a crop top. Obviously this would NOT be for work. But if you’d like to take the Banana Republic paperbag waist lace inset skirt out on the town, pair it with a cute crop top. To keep the details of the skirt’s waist the focus, make sure that the top ends about an inch above the skirt. That way, the cute paper bag effect is not concealed.
Bust out a bodysuit. Yes the bodysuit is perfect for the Banana Republic paperbag waist lace inset skirt. It keeps the top perfectly smooth and tucked in. In fact, I am going to hunt one down. If you have a good one, let me know!
Since this is a summer look, I chose to wear my white pumps. I think they are summer essentials! Plus I think navy, khaki and white make for a fresh summer work look.
To stay with the color palette, I decided to wear gold and white jewelry.
Overall I am very pleased with the Banana Republic paperbag waist lace inset skirt. I plan on wearing it with many brights all summer long. My next combination will be with some bright yellow. Stay tuned on my Instagram to catch it!
