Hello friend! With winter in full force (well as “winter” as it gets here in Los Angeles), I like to change my wardrobe colors to reflect the season (check out winter transition post for more details). What can I say, I like to be seasonal! Therefore, I turn to muted colors like grey and mauve. I recently got an inspiration to pair grey and cognac together. So I gave it a try and loved it. Therefore, I am here to report about my success to you and encourage you to also try a grey and cognac outfit.
Grey and Cognac Outfit: The “Grey”
Since I had been eyeing this Leith ruched long sleeve dress (from my wishlist in the sidebar), I thought it would be perfect to purchase in grey. Thus it would be my “grey” in the grey and cognac outfit.
I love the fit of the dress. Especially important to getting the fit correct is understanding that it is a body-con dress. What does that mean to you? If you like it super fitted, order your regular size. However, if you prefer a little extra room, size up. Because I wanted to feel comfortable in the dress and wear it to multiple types of events, I chose to size up.
I especially love the hem of the dress. The cross-over panel makes the bottom of the dress so flattering and interesting.
Grey and Cognac Outfit: The “Cognac”
Because the dress is pretty much the entire outfit, we have a lot of “grey” in the grey and cognac outfit. Therefore I chose to go with two pops of cognac to balance it out. The first is a pair of knee-high boots.
I chose a knee-high boot because I wanted ample space to bring in my cognac color. A little bootie wouldn’t have been enough.
The second piece of cognac is with my purse. Again I chose a large tote so that the color combination looked deliberate.
Grey and Cognac Outfit: The Details
With the outfit all done, all that was left was a few accessories. With the crew neckline of the dress, most necklaces would have worked. But I chose to go with a pendant necklace from Sugarfix by Baublebar (sorry they don’t have the exact one anymore). I felt that I wanted something in the middle of the dress to catch the eye and add interest. To pair with the necklace I wore some hoops (similar here and here) and a ring from Baublebar.
Grey and Cognac Outfit: The Verdict
In conclusion, I am thrilled with the way my grey and cognac outfit turned out. The color scheme will work year round, but is especially fitting in winter. I hope you try this color combination and let me know what you think!
