Hello friend! With summer almost over, I figured it was time to finish up my summer print series. Earlier this summer I discussed palm tree print, cactus print, and pineapple print. Now I am switching gears away from fruit and foliage, and looking at anchor print. I love a beautiful anchor print in the summer. Therefore when I found my anchor print skirt on Etsy, I was thrilled. Let me show you how I style it!
My Anchor Print Skirt
Although I found my anchor print skirt two years ago, the seller has a similar version in mint. I love the quality of my skirt and the fact that the print is BOLD! You guys know how I adore a bold print! The main reason I love such large prints is because they make pattern mixing so easy. Therefore I’ve worn it with multiple prints many times. However, for that reason, I decided that for this post, I’d wear it with a solid (gasp!).
Anchor Print Skirt 2017 Style
For this year’s styling of my anchor print skirt, I paired it with my ruffle chambray top. As I’ve said many times, chambray tops are my go-to to wear with skirts. That’s probably why I have so many of them… a topic for another post.
Given that I only had one print in this outfit, I had to make my statement through another way. Thus I turned to a pop of color. Red is always so bold and statement-making, so I chose it. Hence the return of my red pumps.
To unify the colors, I chose my red and blue striped clutch.
Lastly for jewelry, I chose to wear just some bold earrings. Because the sleeves of the top were so dramatic and the neckline so high, I thought a necklace would definitely be too much. However, I even considered forgoing earrings altogether. But in the end I thought the look was too bare without them.
Anchor Print Skirt: Previous Styling
Earlier this summer, I wore the anchor print skirt with gingham. I just love the two prints together. The small scale of the gingham perfectly complemented the large anchor print.
Another styling of this anchor print skirt comes to us from last year. I wore it with navy stripes. I even wore it with three prints! It’s one of my favorite “polished whimsy” outfits because it’s a triple pattern mix and super fun!
For another fun look, try pairing the anchor print skirt with a graphic tee. I did so last year with this look.
I hope my styling of my anchor print skirt inspires you to wear yours more often. Or if you don’t have one, to purchase this fun print. It’s quite easy to style, I promise! Check out these fun options below!
Hello friend! When I received this Picadilly Canada dress in cobalt blue, I knew right away I wanted to pair it with turquoise. That’s because I love that color combination. Luckily, because turquoise is one of my favorite colors, I have many pieces in that color. Therefore the cobalt and turquoise outfit came together pretty easily!
Cobalt and Turquoise Outfit: Color Theory
According to color theory, turquoise is actually a tertiary color, made by combing a primary color (blue) and a secondary color (green). Therefore combining blue and turquoise is harmonious due to the colors being analogous on the color wheel. I have done a similar analogous color crush post for my pink and orange outfit. I’ve explained analogous colors in depth there, so check it out!
Cobalt and Turquoise Outfit: The Dress
It was my first time working with Picadilly Canada. They had a lot of pretty dresses on their site, so picking one was no problem. When it arrived it was very striking in person. Besides the bold color (which I love!), the cut of the dress is exquisite. It is figure flattering, but not overtly sexy. It is perfect for family or church events where you want to look good but still be somewhat modest.
The asymmetric hem is another detail that sets this dress apart from others. It helps elongate the figure, which I could certainly use!
The last detail of the dress that I adore are the grommets at the the neckline, cuffs and hem of the dress. They add a modern touch and some attitude to this dress. I think you can even wear this with some killer booties and a leather jacket for a more bada** look!
Cobalt and Turquoise Outfit: The Accessories
Because I love turquoise so much, I often pick up accessories in that color. I have multiple pairs of earrings, a pair of shoes and two purses! I recommend that if you love a color to have some accessories of that color in your closet. Then you can throw it on any time to add life to an outfit. Luckily for me, because of all these accessories, I easily created my cobalt and turquoise outfit.
When I saw these Sam Edelman pumps in turquoise, I knew I would wear them for years to come. So I quickly snapped them up.
I also paired these fun Baublebar tassel earrings with the dress. I thought that two small pops of turquoise against the large expanse of cobalt was just the right amount.
Therefore for my purse, I decided to not go with turquoise. Instead, I opted for a metallic silver to mirror the metallic grommets in the dress.
I love the way this color combination turned out. I will likely wear a cobalt and turquoise outfit again. Would you?
Hello friend! I recently attended a blogger event at a local casino called Pala Casino Spa & Resort. Because it’s local, I was able to drive there. Although it was a short trip, I had a great time at the resort and meeting other bloggers. Therefore I thought I’d write a post both recapping the event and sharing my weekend road trip outfits. Refer to my other Travel Style series for my general packing and travel tips.
Weekend Road Trip Outfits: On the Drive
Since Pala Casino Spa & Resort is about a two hour drive from my home, I decided to wear something comfortable yet cute. I didn’t know if I’d have time to change later, so I opted to be safe and travel in something stylish. Therefore I wore my white jeans and this fun camo top from Gray Monroe (look for the Dakota top under shirts and blouses).
It was a good choice as the drive wasn’t too long, so the jeans were comfortable. The top is exceptionally comfortable and stylish to boot!
Weekend Road Trip Outfits: Touring the Casino and Resort
Luckily once we got to the resort, we did have some time to change. Therefore I changed into a stylish cold shoulder top from Stylewe. With so many other bloggers around, I wanted to look the part!
We had some drinks (meticulously crafted and presented) along with yummy snacks.
Then we were off to play! We had a slot tournament. Now I’ve never participated in one before so I sucked on my first round. But, I’m a quick learner friend and I got the high score on my second round, thank you very much!
Weekend Road Trip Outfits: Lunch x 2
Can I just tell you how thoroughly surprised and pleased I was with the food at Pala Casino Spa & Resort? Some of you don’t know this about me, but I am a foodie! I would have never imagined the exquisite food and wine available at their restaurants. Now I am not a food blogger, but I did take some photos of the meals. Please indulge my attempts at food photography.
Our first meal was a delicious multi course one at The Oak Room Steakhouse, the resort’s fine dining establishment. It is a classy and elegant restaurant, rivaling any one I’ve seen in other cities. The decor was exquisite. But the food was divine. We had the pleasure of speaking with the head chef and the sommelier, both of whom were very knowledgeable about the food and drinks.
I loved how the food was paired with the appropriate wine, but especially that the pairing was explained to us. That’s because I love to learn about food and wine pairings! I was so impressed with the sommelier’s knowledge about California wine regions.
Next we went to sample the food at Cave wine bar. Besides being a foodie, I jokingly also call myself a wino! Therefore you can imagine I felt right at home there! They had the most amazing tapas. From lobster flatbread (I had 3 servings!) to lamb chops and Ahi tuna bites, I happily stuffed my face. The staff there was also very knowledgeable about wine, so I enjoyed a few glasses there as well, naturally!
Weekend Road Trip Outfits: Spa Demo
After the ton of wine I drank, it was time for a much needed nap. I returned to my room, which was spacious and beautifully decorated, to lie down. After my rest time, we got to sample some of the fantastic products available at the spa.
I was thoroughly impressed with the Babor brand. The packaging of the product in ampules caught my interest right away. Perhaps because it was created by a pharmacist?! The serums were fantastic. They sunk into the skin quickly and provided fantastic hydration as well as specific skin care needs. My favorite was the hyaluronic acid one.
The other line of products I sampled was from Coola. They are known for their sunscreens. I tried a few along with their BB cream. I loved both. But I was most interested in their setting spray sunscreen. This can be applied over makeup! As you know if you follow my Instagram stories, I usually walk on my lunch breaks. This will be the perfect sunscreen to touch up my sun protection!
Weekend Road Trip Outfits: UB40 Concert
Finally after a day full of food and fun, we got to enjoy an outdoor concert at Pala Casino Spa & Resort. There were three bands, with UB40 as the headliner. It was a fantastic time! I was surprised that it wasn’t hot outside. It’s not like Palm Springs or Las Vegas where it is still scorching hot at night. In Pala, the evenings were in the 70s and 80s. Therefore it was very comfortable to enjoy an outdoor concert.
Of course I had to wear a fabulous outfit. I thought it was a perfect time to debut my new chambray jumpsuit.
We had a great time at the concert. The best part about seeing a concert at Pala Casino Spa & Resort is that it’s a fluid event. That means, you are not stuck in your seats all night. The concert went on for hours, but we could move around as we pleased. Therefore if you wanted a break, you could go and gamble or relax a bit in your room. This was a fantastic way to see a concert, I highly recommend it.
Weekend Road Trip Outfits: Breakfast & Goodbye
After a restorative night’s sleep, we had a networking breakfast. I had a great time talking to the other bloggers, sharing our tips and woes. For the event as well as the following drive home, I wore a simple cotton t-shirt dress. I love the comfort and simplicity of this dress. Yet, it still looks stylish, especially when paired with the right accessories. I’m thinking of picking up the green color too!
I’m so happy that I was invited to this influencer event. It was my first time at such an event. I’m glad I got to get out of my comfort zone and meet people. I also like the items I chose for my weekend road trip outfits. Most importantly I got to see how many awesome amenities the Pala Casino Spa & Resort has to offer. I am definitely going to be following their concert series (I’m eyeing the Toto and Olivia Newton John dates).
What do you like to take on a quick getaway? Is there anything I missed in my weekend road trip outfits?
Hello friend! Do you have that one person you always have good luck shopping with? Well that person for me is my cousin-in-law. We have similar tastes and fashion sense. Therefore it’s no surprise that we help each other find just the right pieces. Well luck struck again the last time we went shopping. With her help, I found 3 fabulous items: this jumpsuit, this top, and this amazing Madewell eyelet cutout dress.
As you already know, I love a white dress in the summer time. However, the Madewell eyelet cutout dress is on another level. I don’t know what a like more: the sexy cutouts or the flirty ruffled straps.
And let’s not overlook the cute buttons on the side. I love button up sides!
Because of the versatility of this dress, it will be the ideal item to round out the summer. In fact, I will likely be wearing this dress all the way up to Labor Day!
Even though it has cutouts which some might think is too youthful, the placement of them makes this eyelet cutout dress appropriate for all ages. Both boobs and butt are fully covered! Moreover, you can even wear a regular bra with this dress!
For this look, I chose to keep the outfit a bit more casual by wearing them with my favorite summer booties. However, you can easily dress it up with a dainty blush or nude summer sandal.
To accessorize this look, I actually battled with myself trying to decide. Part of me wanted to just wear some fun earrings. But another part of me thought that the open square neckline called for a bold necklace. Therefore I tried both options for you. All of the photos above are with the earrings. But I took a few photos with the necklace as well (see below). Which do you like more?
Finally for my purse, I had to bring in a print with my favorite leopard print clutch. I chose the snow leopard instead of the classic leopard because it blended in more with the dress. While I often like to go for bold statements, for this look I wanted the eyelet cutout dress to be the focus. Therefore I chose a bag of similar coloring.
Can you see now why I love this dress so much? Be sure to snag one soon as it’s on sale!
Hello friend! Because I loved the Banana Republic paper-bag waist skirt so much, I decided to make multiple outfits with it. I knew it would be fairly easy because the cut and color of the skirt are both classic.
I love how streamlined the look is with a bodysuit. It’s a look that will be perfect for multiple occasions. To add some print and texture, I wore my Vionic snakeskin booties. The add a fun touch to the outfit.
For my accessories, I chose a fun tassel necklace. I love how a necklace looks against a mock turtleneck.
It’s fairly obvious to say I am loving my paper-bag waist skirt. It is very versatile, as I hope I have proven. What’s your favorite look? Let me know in the comments.
