City Weekend Getaway Outfits

Hello friend! While planning for my San Francisco getaway, I was very strict with myself about what I took. Knowing I wasn’t going to check in any bags, I had to make sure everything fit easily into my carry-on bag. So I carefully narrowed down my items and mastered packing only the essential city weekend getaway outfits.

As in my previous travel posts, I will follow my must-haves list.

1. Scarf or Cover-Up

Since I was traveling light, I chose one scarf that would work for the entire weekend. To ensure it would work with multiple outfits, I chose a neutral color scheme. For travel day one, I wore it with a long sleeve tee, jeans and a jacket.

For travel day three, I wore it with a cold shoulder sweater and jeans.

2. Lounging Outfit

This trip was such a short one, that my pajamas doubled as a lounging outfit. To be honest, there was hardly any time to lounge at all!

3. Location Appropriate Neutral Shoes

I was super proud of myself for taking just ONE pair of shoes on this trip. I chose my black booties because they worked with pants and dresses alike. Plus they were appropriate to wear shopping, wine-tasting and dining.

4. Evening Bag

Lastly, for my evening bag for the weekend, I simply used my Rebecca Minkoff Love Crossbody. It was actually my only bag for the weekend. It is the perfect size for both sightseeing by day and dinners by night.

All in all, it was much easier than anticipated to plan the city weekend getaway outfits for San Francisco. I was able to travel to and from with only carry-on luggage. I hope to continue to be this discerning in my future packing.

One Item Four Ways: Buffalo Check Sweater

Hello friend! With the temperatures cooling off, it’s time to pull out our sweaters. But don’t fret, that doesn’t mean we have to stop wearing fun prints. Get yourself a fun printed sweater and let me show you how versatile it can be. My favorite new one is this buffalo check sweater from Gray Monroe. Let me show you four ways to wear it.

Perfectly Preppy in a Buffalo Check Sweater

As I’ve said many times before, when it comes to mixing patterns, similar patterns are an easy mix to master. Therefore I started with pairing the buffalo check sweater with a gingham button down shirt. I kept it a casual look by pairing it with jeans.

To keep with the casual feel of the outfit, I added a squash blossom necklace and spike earrings. I just adore how the scalloped hem of the sweater plays off of the preppy starchiness of the gingham shirt.

Buffalo Check Ballerina

For the next outfit, I wanted to contrast the texture of the sweater against something more delicate. I quickly settled on a tulle skirt. For some added interest, I wore leopard print pumps. Then I rounded out the femininity of the look with pretty pink tassel earrings. The result is fun and unique.

Buffalo Check Sweater for Work

Making the sweater work appropriate was very easy. Because I adore pairing buffalo check with stripes, I quickly chose a striped skirt for my work look. Since all of the colors are the same, it is a very harmonious work look, even if it is pattern mixed. I kept the accessories simple in black, so not to distract too much at work.

For my jewelry, I couldn’t help but to add in my newest earring obsession, the Chiquita drops. These earrings are stunning while still being very comfortable. They really hold their own in any outfit.

Buffalo Check Sweater Meets Moto

Another play on textures brought me to this outfit where I paired the sweater with my pink moto jacket. Playing off of the tough biker vibe, I added a substantial warrior necklace. And of course, blue denim was a must.

Bonus Fifth Outfit: Pleated Perfection for Work

Finally for the last look, I paired the sweater with a pleated leather skirt and a chambray polka dot shirt. I added a pair of over-the-knee boots and the outfit was complete.

My Black Friday Sale Picks

Hello friend! Well we made it to Thanksgiving. And with this season comes a lot of shopping. Between the black Friday sales and all of the upcoming holiday sales, these months have always been heavy spending seasons for me. This year I am trying to be strategic. See my sale picks and reasons below.

Strategy 1: Pick Sales with Deepest Discounts

This year J. Crew is having an unprecedented 40% off sale. Because I have always been a big fan of theirs, I cannot pass up such a great deal. Furthermore, since I shop there often, I know my sizes. Therefore, I can comfortably shop from home! Here are my picks.

I am adoring the black and red plaid of the Stewart print. It’s a colorway I have not seen before, so I had to have it! I think it will be a perfect holiday piece. The only concern is paring down which one of the three items I’m eyeing to purchase… thoughts?

Other options for holiday tops are these three pretties. The bow tops are seasonal yet classic, making either a wise purchase. The black lace peplum top (which also comes in pink and nude) is another lovely holiday piece.

My last three picks are more work appropriate. First is this blush pink turtleneck sweater. Because I have been wanting to purchase one for over a year, this will definitely be a smart purchase. The blue and white striped bell sleeve tee will also be a versatile item. I adore the petiteness of the sleeves. It gives a nod to the trend, while still being classic. Lastly, that gorgeous skirt is a complete must have. I adore the bold color and the fun nautical theme

Strategy 2: Try Something New

Why not take the opportunity of a good sale to purchase an item you may not have purchased otherwise. Go ahead, try a new brand, attempt that trend, or change up your colors. I was excited to see the fantastic deals at Banana Republic: everything is 50% off. Therefore, I could try some fun new items. The ones that caught my eye the most are these:

I’ve been wanting a couple of more sweaters, so this one and this one will be perfect additions to my wardrobe. Another item I’ve been wanting to wear more is a tweed jacket. This pretty scalloped one stole my heart. Last, I wouldn’t mind adding some sequins to my closet. That is one texture I do not have much of, so a sale item would be a perfect remedy.

Strategy 3: Update your Wardrobe Essentials

Use this opportunity to purchase fun essentials. A great place for that is shopbop. They have both classic staples as well as on trend pieces. Consider a neutral shoulder bag like this one. This is also a good time to stock up on or replace worn out boots. Lastly, consider a fun yet timeless clutch to get you through this and future holidays. I am also eyeing this amazing glittery one here.

I also always shop the Baublebar sale to update my jewels for the upcoming holidays. Here are the ones I am fawning over. Basically anything glitzy and glamorous is on my list!

I hope that my tips will help you pare down your black Friday sale list. Let me know what you’re thinking of buying!

Thanksgiving Outfit

Hello friend! With the holidays almost here, I wanted to share my Thanksgiving outfit with you. I was lucky to be contacted by the lovely shop mod.posh. They have beautiful dresses and skirts, all geared towards modest fashion. Now I am not one who only wears modest clothes, however, I am one who adores a gorgeous midi dress of skirt. Therefore, I couldn’t resist the chance to get one of the dresses.

Burgundy and baby blue for thanksgiving outfit

I chose the Vicky dress in wine. With the holidays around the corner, I was already prepping for my Thanksgiving outfit. I wanted to be sure I’d have a pretty dress to wear for the occasion. And you cannot get any prettier than this dress. The lace details are just divine. It is also lightweight but opaque, thus making it a very comfortable dress for the holiday.

While in previous years I have paired burgundy with more traditional colors like mustard, this year I wanted to try something different. Therefore, I chose to pair it with baby blue and blush.

Because the neckline of the dress is so pretty, I decided to skip a necklace. I wore the primrose drops, a dainty pair of pink Baublebar earrings. Since there are so many colors and textures, I kept the rest of the jewelry simple, with a classic gold cuff and a pretty ring.

And just when you think you’ve seen the best of the outfit, wait until you see the back. It has a beautiful V-back with scalloped detail.

While the outfit did not have any patters, I couldn’t resist adding one in for my outerwear. I decided to go bold with leopard print. I love how the burgundy pairs with the leopard.

Ironically, I have also worn burgundy for my Thanksgiving outfit for the last three years. I’m not sure whether it’s a coincidence or whether I choose them subconsciously. Either way, they are all pretty outfits, so I will share them also. Last year I work this beautiful Anthropologie lace skirt and blanket scarf.

The year before, I wore this burgundy dress with another blanket scarf.

I hope you enjoyed my Thanksgiving outfits. What are you planning on wearing? Also, if you like the lace dress, be sure to stay tuned to my Instagram because I’ll be having a giveaway soon! Furthermore, any of the pieces that are available from this post (or close alternatives) are listed below.

Try This: Bell Sleeve Top

Hello Friend! So you may remember I tried a bell sleeve top a few months back (see it here). Because I enjoyed the dramatic detail so much, I tried it again. With this top, the sleeve has a triple bell, therefore triple the drama!

Bell Sleeve Top for Play

It is very easy to style this top for a casual look. I just paired it with my favorite high waisted skinnies from Topshop and a pair of pumps and I was good to go!

bell sleeve top with distressed skinny jeans

To keep the focus on the beauty of the sleeves, I  kept the other accessories minimal. I simply added a leopard print clutch.

gingham bell sleeve top and black skinny jeans

For jewelry, I chose a beautiful pair of tassel earrings from my favorite jewelry store Baublebar.

Bell Sleeve Top for Work

Despite my initial instinct to keep this look simple, I had to give in to the rebel in me. Therefore I ended up pattern mixing this outfit too. I chose to pair the bell sleeve top with one of my favorite fall purchases, this floral print skirt.

gingham bell sleeve top and fall florals skirt

I love how there is so much movement in the skirt and the top. Although the prints are quite different, there is harmony due to the differing scales and common colors. If you are interested in pattern mixing, check out my entire pattern primer category here.

With bell sleeves staying popular well into the fall, I expect it will be on trend for winter as well. So why not get yourself a cute one now?! Let me know how else I should wear this shirt. And as always, the items in the post are listed below if you are interested in shopping them!

Try This: Cold Shoulder Sweater

Hello friend!

We all have enjoyed many months of bare shoulders in the summer, with both off the shoulder and cold shoulder tops. But with colder weather arriving, I thought the cold shoulder trend was over. I was happily proven wrong by the cold shoulder sweater. Let me show you two ways to wear it now.

cold shoulder sweater for work

For work, I suggest pairing the sweater with more classic work apparel so that it’s not too trendy looking. Here I paired it with a favorite floral print skirt.

Shein ruffle cold shoulder sweater with floral print skirt

To contrast the femininity of the ruffle in the top, I added an edgy warrior necklace. I feel it balanced out the look.

I wanted a pop of color, so I turned to my most recent shoe purchase, these mustard yellow pumps. As you know, I have done a full blog post on pairing mustard and mint (if you missed it, go see it here). Therefore, the pairing was a natural mix for me.

Mustard and mint outfit palette

To ground the look, I chose a neutral gray purse, also a recent purchase and new favorite!

All in all, it was a perfect way to incorporate the cold shoulder trend into a work outfit.

cold shoulder sweater for fun

In contrast to the work outfit, wearing a cold shoulder sweater for fun was a much easier pairing. A jeans look was a must! I wore this outfit on a recent trip to San Francisco. Because of the cooler temps in San Francisco (compared to Los Angeles), I added a scarf to the top.

For this look, since the outfit was so casual, I chose to add some sparkle in my accessories. Therefore, I added a fun pair of earrings. Because they were in neutral tones, this recently purchased pair from Baublebar was the perfect addition to the outfit. They added some oomph but did not take away from the beauty of the sweater.

Overall, it was a perfect look for a day in the city. I felt fashion forward yet comfortable.

One Item Four Ways: Buffalo Check Tunic

Hello friend,

Like many of you, I am a plaid lover. Whatever the type or scale, I adore it! So it’s no surprise that I like buffalo check. I have a few. But I have always missed owning the quintessential black and red buffalo check shirt. Well, thankfully Romwe came to the rescue. During our latest collaboration I chose this buffalo check shirt.

What’s especially appealing about this blouse is that it is tunic length. That opens it up to multiple styling options, both casual and formal.

A tunic length shirt simply calls to be paired with leggings. Since my recent dabble with leggings (see this post), I have become a convert. And also because I so adore pattern mixing, I had to pair the buffalo check tunic with my fair isle leggings.

Another option is to keep the tunic unbuttoned and wear it over a graphic tee. With this outfit, I went for a very laid back and hip vibe with distressed jeans and a grey shirt.

Romwe buffalo check tunic with graphic tee

For my more formal looks, I did one for work and one for play. Starting with the work outfit, I paired the buffalo check shirt with stripes to make my favorite pattern mixing pair. Here I chose to knot the shirt at my waist. Because the shirt is a tunic length, it allows me to do so without revealing my belly, which would be a no-no for work!

And last but not least, I paired the shirt with my newest obsession, the tulle skirt. Again, the versatility of the shirt is noted here in that it can be tucked in to produce a much more polished look. This outfit is one that is party ready!

While this may seem like a pricey outfit, it is definitely an affordable one. Romwe is known for their reasonably priced items. Also, this skirt is actually from the kid’s section. Because it is elastic waist, I found that it still fits me comfortably. So make it a point to check out all of your options!

For accessories, I couldn’t resist pattern mixing. Therefore, I added a leopard print clutch. I think the prints go together like a hand and glove. Furthermore, it lends a more festive look to the outfit. Lastly, for my earrings, I chose my sparkliest tassel earrings.

I hope I was able to show you the versatility of this buffalo check tunic shirt. Let me know which look was your favorite or which one you’re going to try. And as always, if you’d like to shop the look, the items are linked below.

Pattern Primer: Fall Florals and Leopard Print

Hello Friend!

One of the most exciting things about starting a blog has been the opportunity to thoroughly explain my outfits and ideas. Another of the positives has been getting feedback and suggestions from you guys. On my last pattern primer post, Delilah asked me to try a post with fall florals and leopard print. I was excited to try this challenge, so here we go.

One of the easiest ways to make a fall florals and leopard print outfit is to use accessories. Here I added a leopard print belt to a mustard floral print dress.

Loft fall florals and leopard print

Another option is to incorporate a leopard print scarf into a fall florals outfit. Here I added the scarf to this lively green floral print skirt. The outfit as a whole “works” because there are similar colors in all of the pieces. Furthermore, both printed pieces are warm-toned, thus further unifying the outfit.

Anthropologie fall florals and leopar print

My third example of fall florals and leopard print is this outfit I wore recently. For this look, I incorporated the leopard print into a shoe. This look is one of the easiest for novice pattern mixers to try. Therefore if you’re looking for a place to start, this is your outfit!

Fall florals and leopard print

In addition to shoes, I placed leopard print in my purse to achieve this next look. This one has the added bonus of a triple pattern mix.

Fall florals and leopard print

Because I was using mostly accessories for my second print, I decided to be bold and actually try the look with two clothing pieces. I paired this bright orange floral print skirt with a leopard print cardigan. While it is not a pairing anyone would turn to right away, the outfit still works. That’s because the tones are both the same (warm) and the colors are complementary. Furthermore, the prints are of different scales. This allows for each item to stand out on its own.

Lastly, I wanted to attempt a fall florals and leopard print outfit with cool tones. To do so is still quite easy. You can use snow leopard, which has cooler tones than traditional leopard print. Paired with the purples of this dress, the snow leopard makes a perfect pattern mix.

One Item Four Ways: Patterned Leggings

Hello friend!

You’re probably used to me wearing and writing about work appropriate outfits. It’s true, most of my posts are about that kind of outfit. So when Simple Addiction contacted me to try their leggings, I was a bit unsure if I was the right person for them. While the patterned leggings looked amazing (I wanted this pair and this pair right away), I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to mix them with items in my closet. More so, I wasn’t sure I could find a fun and unique outfit. But, since this blog is about me finding multiple looks and pushing my limits, I decided to try a pair. I finally settled on the Nordic Wonderful print and diligently set out to plan my outfits.

Because the print is very reminiscent of winter, I decided to wear them with a couple of sweaters. I made sure to choose ones that were fairly long in length since I did not want my bottom to go uncovered. My first pairing is with a deep burgundy peplum sweater.

target peplum sweater and printed leggings

The rich tones of the sweater popped against the stark black and white of the pant. To finalize the look, I added booties, a statement necklace and a moto bag.

Simple addiction nordic printed leggings with Target sweater

For the next outfit, I stuck with neutral tones, but picked a sweater that had interesting details built in.

Patterned leggings with Target criss cross sweater

The high-low hem provides adequate rear coverage while the criss-cross back feature makes the item on-trend. I finished off the look with mid calf boots and sparkly tassel earrings.

Target high low sweater

For a cozier, wintery look, I chose to pair the leggings with a warm turtleneck sweater.

Simple addiction leggings with turtleneck sweater

Over-the-knee boots and boot cuffs completed this cold-weather look.

For my last look, I had to bring in a little pattern-mixing. Because the print of the legging is bold and variable in size, finding  another print to mix with it may be difficult. I suggest going for a small, uniform print. I chose this medium scale plaid.

Simple addiction nordic wonderful leggings with plaid shirt

The colors of the shirt liven up the black and white of the leggings. I am also planning on wearing this pair with a red and black buffalo plaid shirt soon.

While I was intimidated by wearing these leggings at first, I surprised myself with the number of outfits I came up with. Furthermore, I have worn these leggings five times in the last two weeks. It is safe to say I love them! Which printed leggings should I try next? Leave your recommendations in the comment section!

Finally, if you are interested in any of the items above, I have linked what’s still available below:

Color Crush: Mustard Yellow and Red

Hello friend!

If you read my last post on why I participate in style challenges, you’d already know that I am often getting color combination inspirations from them. One such combination is mustard yellow and red. Prior to seeing that challenge prompt, I had never paired those two colors together. But because I enjoy trying new color combinations, I knew I had to try that one as well. I created one outfit and I loved how it turned out. Therefore, I set out to create a few more and to showcase them here for you. I hope you like these bright and eye-catching mustard yellow and red outfits just as much as I do.

mustard yellow and red outfit

The first look I wore was this one for the actual challenge prompt. I had purchased this beautiful mustard yellow and black floral top recently. Although I hand’t planned on wearing it with red, I decided to try the color combination out.

mustard yellow and red target and j crew outfit

It worked out beautifully. The colors popped against each other and made the outfit very eye-catching. For the accessories, I kept everything neutral in cognac and leopard.

mustard yellow target top and red j crew skirt

Because I liked the result of the first outfit so much, I decided to try other outfits with mustard yellow and red color combination. The next one was pretty much just a flip flop of the previous outfit, so I had a hunch it would work.

Target carwash skirt with mustard yellow and red

The color combination came through for me again. More importantly, I got to wear this pretty car wash skirt. In addition to the beautiful color, the skirt has a great cut and shape. You must see how pretty it is in motion. I tried to capture it below:
Target car wash skirt outfit in mustard yellow and red

After the success of those two outfits, I decided to try something more adventurous. This time I chose two bold patterns which incorporated mustard yellow and red colors.

Pattern mixing red jcrew plai with floral anthropologie skirt, demonstrating mustard yellow and red color combination

I paired this red plaid shirt with a blue floral skirt. I added a pair of mustard shoes in addition to the mustard floral in the skirt.

floral skirt with mustard yellow and red print

Finally, for the last outfit, I turned to my mustard yellow Loft dress. This time, I wanted to play with proportions of the color palette. Therefore, I opted to just use a pop of red in the shoes.

Loft mustard yellow dress with red Kate Spade shoes

In contrast to the sweet floral print on the dress, the leopard print on the belt adds a bit of wild. I chose soft neutral jewelry to complement the outfit rather than distract from it. These neutral earrings and bracelet add the perfect finishing touches.

Loft mustard yellow dress with leopard print belt

I hope you enjoyed reading this post just as much as I enjoyed writing it.  Moreover, I hope you are as convinced as I am that this color combination is a must. But most of all, I truly hope you attempt to wear this color palette. If you do, please tag me on Instagram so I can see the fabulous outfit you put together.
