Try This: Boho White Dress

Hello friend! While I enjoy putting together fun work appropriate outfits, I also like to try new styles. One trend I’ve been playing with is the bohemian look. Although I can’t get too “boho” at work, I can bring in a boho vibe. The easiest way to do so is by wearing a boho white dress. My dress is from Shop Stevie. It is now sold out, but they have other fantastic bohemian style dresses.

My Take on the Boho White Dress

When I first got this dress, I knew it would be a perfect spring and summer look. Therefore I chose to pair it with my summer booties. I feel that boho is almost synonymous with booties! I love the way it came out. The booties temper the femininity of the dress.

I chose not to wear a necklace because the top of this little boho white dress is so pretty. It has delicate embroidery on the bodice and sleeves. Thus I didn’t want anything to cover it up.

Therefore, I only wore earrings and some bracelets.

Because the outfit was lacking in color and pattern, I chose to bring in a “polished whimsy” element with my choice of purse. Therefore I wore my snow leopard print clutch. I love how the snow leopard is softer than the original leopard spots. It works perfectly with the boho white dress.

All in all, I think this boho white dress outfit came together fairly well. I’m excited about styling it a few different ways, similar to what I did with this dress. Specifically, here are my recommendations (for this or another boho white dress):

Other Ways to Wear a Boho White Dress

  1. Belt with a cool multi-strand or fringe belt.
  2. Pair with wedges and a floppy hat.
  3. Layer with a crochet vest, oh so boho!
  4. Add a casual element with a denim jacket.
  5. Top it with a rich suede jacket.
  6. Accessorize with fringy jewelry and layer it on! Think lots of beaded bracelets and multiple strands of necklaces.
  7. Carry a large unstructured bag, preferably with fringe!

One Item Four Ways: Leather Leggings II

Hello friend. I am usually not one to repeat a post. However, when an item is this versatile, I must do it. I think it also has to do with the fact that leather leggings are completely new to me, so I am thoroughly obsessed! I’ll give you a moment to review my first leather leggings post. Now let me show you four more ways of wearing them. The leggings are the same pair from Gray Monroe.

Casual Blush and Black

The leggings are a perfect companion for an oversized sweater. This time, I paired it with my new sweater obsession, also from Gray Monroe.

To go with the more casual vibe of the outfit, I wore my new Skechers slip-ons with the look. The blush tone of the shoe complimented the sweater perfectly.

The best part about this shoe is the rose gold stripe in the back, so lovely!

Graphic Tee and Cardi

Another outfit I was excited to try was pairing a long tee with a shorter cardigan. I have a great inspiration photo pinned on my leather leggings Pinterest board if you’d like to check it out. This was what I came up with.

My shirt is from my favorite tee shirt company, Mama Bird and Co. Her tees are the softest and they are long so they cover the booty! I wanted to bring in a print here, so I paired the look with this cheetah print cardigan. As for shoes, I chose a pair of booties with spikes to go with the bada** feel of the shirt and cardigan.

Leather Leggings for Work

Since it’s not always easy to wear them to work, I wanted another office look. I decided to layer with a long vest and a chambray shirt. The result is an office appropriate outfit that I like as much as the last, if not more!

Boho Leather Leggings

Finally for my last look, I decided to try a casual bohemian look by wearing the leggings with a poncho. The poncho is from Zyania, an online store with affordable and cute accessories (seriously, the items can rival department store pieces)!

This look came together quite simply with a pair of over the knee boots and a criss-cross top. I love the drape and flow of the poncho as I walk.

Because there is so much visual interest in the outfit already, I kept my accessories minimal. Therefore I opted for just a pair of statement earrings.

In conclusion, I think it is safe to say that I am loving leather leggings. If you’re loving them as much as I am, let me know!

Disclaimer: Skechers gifted me the shoes. As always, my opinions are my own.

One Item Four Ways: Leather Leggings

Hello friend! Recently I went beyond my comfort zone and ordered leather leggings (they are actually faux leather from Gray Monroe). Because I was unsure how to wear them, I decided to do a one item four ways post. It turns out, leather leggings are fairly easy to style. Moreover, they look super cute! Therefore, stick around and see my stylings.

Leather Leggings for Work

Because wearing leather leggings to work seemed impossible, I decided to try that challenge. I knew I wanted to wear something that covered my butt (seemed necessary for wearing leggings to work), so I chose a blazer.

I chose to keep the colors neutral to help the leather pants blend in at work. Since the colors were neutral, I decided to dip into my other bag of tricks and play with texture. Therefore I wore a lace blouse under the blazer. I topped the entire look off with a smart pair of silver pumps.

For accessories, I chose simple pieces like this Kendra Scott pendant and earrings. I also added on a simple gray tote to complete the work look.

Cozy Leather Leggings

This next look came about quite coincidentally. During my last blog photo session (for my white jeans post), I was wearing the leggings and when I got cold, I just added the sweater on top. Because the two looked great together, I had to recreate it here for you.

This look is especially good for those who are shy about wearing leather leggings. Because the sweater covers a lot of the leggings, it is a perfect starter outfit.

Polished whimsy wearing leather leggings and over the knee boots

Although between the sweater and the over the knee boots, the leather leggings are almost hidden, the bit that is peeking through is enough to add a fun element to the outfit. This look is another example of texture mixing. I simply adore the sleek leather look against the raw suede and chunky knit.

Toughened Baby Doll Dress

One of the first ways I wore the leather leggings was for another one item four ways post, on a buffalo check dress. For that post, I added the leggings to bring a bit of edge to an otherwise sweet baby doll dress.

This concept will work with other prints as well. I think it’ll be especially pretty with a floral mini dress or tunic. Someone give that a try and tag me on Instagram!

For the last planned outfit for this post, I decided to do a going out look with leather leggings. I paired the pants with a beautiful and detailed lace blouse. Although it’s a black on black outfit, there is a lot of visual interest with the textures of the items. This is another look where you can add a blazer (think satin, or even sequined) for an even more fashion forward look (or for butt coverage!)

For the accessories, I chose to add color and another texture by wearing my burgundy velvet shoes. And to make it even more nighttime ready, I added the glitter clutch.

This is another look where you can add a blazer (think satin, or even sequined) for an even more fashion forward look (or for butt coverage!) Finally, for jewelry, I accented the gorgeous blouse with pretty tassel earrings in gray and black. I kept the rest minimal with just my watch and a statement ring.

BONUS OUTFIT

I was only planning on four outfits for this post (hence the title, duh!) But after my photo shoot I was planning on going out for burgers with the fam. Therefore, I had brought along a cardigan and booties to wear. When I put it on, I thought it looked great and warranted its own photos. So here they are, an alternate casual leather leggings look.

These leather leggings will definitely amp up your on the go look! While comfortable and easy to wear, they are also very stylish.

One Item Four Ways: Wedge Booties

Hello Friend! Because we are well into boot and bootie season, I want to share with you multiple ways I wear my booties. I wear booties for all occasions of life and therefore will show you a pair of booties for a one item four ways post. The booties I will be showcasing are the Keyport wedge booties from Secret Celebrity which is available for purchase on Amazon.

Wedge Booties for Work

One of my favorite ways to wear wedge booties is with a skirt and tights. These specific booties are very conducive for a professional job because they are lean and streamlined. The classic design and timeless styling also help to make this bootie perfectly work appropriate.

Because of its neutral color, this bootie is perfect to pair with patterned tights. Here I paired it with a herringbone print. The stone color highlights the fun pattern in the tights while still standing out as its own piece.

Besides work, these booties are easy to wear for many other occasions. Adding them to a simple jean and sweater look has you ready for a day of fun.

Another option, especially for the colder days, is to layer a pair of leg warmers over the booties. This provides warmth and some additional style to your look.

I have these faire isle print ones that I adore. I simply added a high-low hem tee and a fun warrior necklace and I am good to go!

Dressing up the Wedge Booties

Because of the sleek look of the boot, it can be quickly taken to a more sophisticated look by pairing it with a flowy skirt. Add a sweater and some pretty earrings, and the look is perfect for a winter night out.

Recently I have been obsessing over sweaters and flowy skirts. In fact, I will likely do another post dedicated to that look. But until then, here are some pretty options if you’d like to purchase a similar look for yourself:

In conclusion, I hope that with the multiple pairings of the booties, you are in agreement that they are a versatile item for your wardrobe. Fortunately for you, the inspiration does not stop here. For this blog post I am fortunate to link up with these other fabulous ladies all showcasing their Keyport wedge booties. Try This: Poncho for the Office

Hello friend!

What do you think about the poncho? While it’s having a comeback into popular fashion again, I was skeptical about wearing it to work. Although I have worn ponchos for casual outfits, I just was not sure about it for the workplace. As a result of this doubt, I set out to determine how to wear a poncho for work.

Ideas on how to wear a poncho for work.

Because this was a new look for me, I decided to keep the colors neutral. As a result, it would help the outfit look more work appropriate. Since I chose a neutral color palette, I chose to play with texture. Hence, to the rougher texture of the wool poncho, I added the feminine texture of lace.

For accessories, I wanted to maximize the feminine touches. Therefore, I went with high heeled booties and pretty tassel earrings.

For underneath the poncho, I layered a black sweater. The sweater also had some fun texture in the gold studs on the sleeves.

I hope this outfit has convinced you that you can wear a poncho for work. Moreover, I hope you try your hand at this outfit.

Try This: 90s Fashion Trends

Hello friend!

If you’ve been following fashion these past couple of years, you would have surely seen the resurgence of 90s fashion trends. While I like to participate in trends, I don’t like to relive the exact look of a decade. So let me show you how I modernize the trend.

90s fashion trends lace babydoll dress and choker

First of all, from the multiple items popularized in the trend,  I choose the styles that I would actually wear. For me, that is chokers, baby-doll dresses, flannels, bandanas and matte lips (I consider makeup a part of my look)! Then I incorporate those items with contemporary and classic pieces. That results in a fresh take on the trend, and one that is all mine!

90s fashion trends lace babydoll dress and choker

For my first example, I am wearing a baby-doll dress and a choker. Both items were ubiquitous 90’s pieces. However, I made them more modern by pairing with a contemporary bootie (instead of the then popular Doc Marten’s). I also chose a solid print dress (but one with great texture) instead of the prevalent 90’s floral print.

90s fashion trends lace babydoll dress and choker

The bell sleeves of the dress also give it a more bohemian and 70’s vibe. That’s another reason I like this dress so much. While I want a nod to the 90’s, I don’t want to look like I stepped out of the 90’s!

90s fashion trends lace babydoll dress and choker

My last bit of 90’s style is my makeup. I turned to matte brown lips, the ever-popular lip shade of the decade. To get the look, I use my MAC lipliner and Kat Von Dee liquid lipstick.

My second example is a more casual look. I wore this while I was sightseeing in Brooklyn.

90s fashion trends with flannel shirt and bandana

The 90’s vibe is definitely present in the flannel around the waist and the bandana. But yet again, I made it feel contemporary by pairing those items with more “now” and classic pieces such as the split knee skinny jean and the chambray shirt. The sleek modern bootie also grounds the look and makes it current.

Are you similarly intrigued by some of the 90s fashion trends or would you rather leave them in the past?

Current Obsession: Cut-off denim shorts

Hello friend!

I’ll admit it, I am late to this ubiquitous summer trend. Truth be told, for years I thought I was too old for shorts. Once I hit my thirties, I started feeling so self conscious about my age and fashion choices. I truly thought I could no longer wear certain things, particularly shorts. It wasn’t until I had dinner with a very fashion forward girlfriend that I realized how silly I was being. This girlfriend was a few years older than me and was rocking a great pair of shorts and wedges. It was tasteful, fashionable and completely age appropriate. So since then, I am rocking the shorts proudly.

I had to share a pair of my current favorites. I am truly obsessed with them. They are from american eagle outfitters. It’s the high-rise festival shortie. It has distressing as well as crochet detailing. I love when there is an unexpected feminine touch to an otherwise more masculine and edgy look.

IMG_7416

I also like how the cut of the leg are asymmetrical in that the outer sides are cut higher up. That creates the illusion of longer legs. Also the back hold is not stitched up. It naturally hangs down, which I don’t mind. It provides a bit more coverage.

IMG_7419IMG_7422

Besides this pair, I have a couple of others from old navy, target and american eagle. They all have their place in my closet and heart! Which shorts are your favorites? Please share below.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my thoughts. Feel free to share this post on any social media of your choice!
